Yajirou is a very passive character. The frog-tanuki spends the majority of his life quietly listening to the story of any passerby who wishes to confess, acting as a listening ear amongst the community. This also applies to his brother, Yasaburou, who often drops by his well to talk. Although Yajirou never tries to actively contribute to his family, he is still loyal and loving of them.
