Nationality: East German
Marlene is Lise Hohenstein’s mother and Theodor’s adopted mother, living in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. She was dearly loved by the two of them, and a large part of the reason why Lise wanted to work in the theater industry as an adult.
She is a playwright like her husband Thomas, and like him is known for her scripts extolling the virtues of humanity and freedom, which are read as a criticism of the current East Germany’s current regime by many. She was forced out of the industry because of government pressure.
