The protagonist of this work. An 11-year-old girl who attends the elementary school division of Kotemari Academy. She is a lively and energetic girl with a distinctive flaxen-colored short haircut.
She loves magic, but inherited from her father a natural clumsiness that makes her hands slow and her skills are still immature. She wants to become a magician like her idol, Emily Howell, and by receiving magic from the mirror spirit Topo, she is able to transform into her ideal self, "Magical Emi."
Magical Emi
Mai's transformed form, Emi, is named after Emily Howell, a magician whom Mai admires. She suddenly appears as a mysterious genius magician and makes Magicarat's performance, which was on the verge of failure, a success. Koganei, who happens to be there, notices her star potential and she makes her debut in the entertainment industry, becoming the star of Magicarat.
